This design won it recognition as a movie star car in such films as James Bond’s 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and 'For Your Eyes Only'. The re-style in 1988 softened the lines a bit and earned it another cameo in the hit movie ‘Pretty Woman’. The basic style of the Esprit survived almost 30 years, a true testament to its crisp, modern look and its famous designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. In 1997 Lotus shoe-horned a twin turbo V8 in the Esprit rated at 350 hp that enables the car to obtain 60mph in a scant 4.7 seconds on its way to a 178 mph top speed. This really improved the character of an already rapid piece of machinery.
